![]() Ellison noted lumber prices have fallen through the floor as supply and demand have finally rebalanced after years of supply chain constraints. Lowe’s said sales at stores open at least a year fell 4.3% in the past quarter. Consumers are pausing large-scale projects until economic conditions stabilize,” he said. “Year-over-year project completions are up 1.8% in the first quarter of 2023 on a year-over-year basis, decelerating from 6.5% in the fourth quarter of 2022. Some have paused large-scale projects, while others are shifting towards smaller, lower-cost projects, he said.Īmong the trends he’s observed: Consumers are downgrading brand names in favor of lower prices, they’re using factory-made cabinetry as opposed to custom carpentry and buying less expensive countertops.ĭarcy said project completions are beginning to waver. “This has been unhelpful to Lowe’s, although arguably the burden falls more on Home Depot as movers tend to undertake heavier and more serious DIY, which traditionally favors Lowe’s larger rival,” he said.īill Darcy, CEO of the National Kitchen & Bath Association, said homeowners are nervous about the economy. Why retail theft is soaring: inflation, the economy - and opportunity The Target logo is displayed on shopping carts at a Target store on Februin Southgate, California. On the consumer side, a slowing housing market is dragging down the number of people undertaking projects, Saunders said. “Lowe’s is suffering from a case of the home improvement blues,” said retail expert Neil Saunders, managing director at Global Data, in a note Tuesday. The end of a protracted robust investment by homeowners in DIY home improvement projects during the pandemic has forced Lowe’s and rival Home Depot to look for ways to offset a business slowdown. That optimism also hinges on pursuing a different customer, where having rural stores “gives us an opportunity to drive sustainable profit growth due to the much lower expense base,” said Ellison. “We remain optimistic about the medium-to-long-term outlook for home improvement.” “We are updating our full-year outlook to reflect softer-than-expected consumer demand for discretionary purchases,” said Ellison. IP addresses do reveal your geolocation, but not your precise location like a home address does. IP addresses will also never reveal your name, phone number, or other precise personal information. Instead, IP addresses might reveal the city, ZIP code, or area code from where you are connecting to the internet at that moment, which is why IP addresses change every time you connect from a new location or when you are using a new router.Īnd it’s generally your router’s IP address that is revealed, not the IP address of your internet-connected devices such as your computer, tablet, or mobile phone that communicate with a router to connect to the internet. ![]() ![]() ![]() Sure, these internet-connected devices share their IP address with your router, but your router uses its own IP address to grant your device access to the World Wide Web. There are plenty of mind-mapping apps, most notable among them being the venerable and much-loved Tinderbox, but those have never worked for me. I’d love to see a desktop version of WorkFlowy - as far as I know, there’s nothing quite like it. Plus, OmniOutliner is plagued by feature bloat that makes it hard to use well. ![]() OmniOutliner files, by contrast, are basically OPML/XML - readable by multiple apps, but not as plain as I’d like. TaskPaper is not a real outliner - more than a couple of levels of indentation and things start getting unmanageable - but its files are plain text. And I can approximate many, though not all, of its features in OmniOutliner and TaskPaper, which reside on my computer. It’s a web app, which means that my data is on somebody’s server, something I don’t like (though it does have nice export options). Which is pretty cool.Īll that said, I’m probably not going to be using Workflowy. In other words, Workflowy could become, if I chose, a BATF with an adjustable-view organizational structure. And then from that Home view I can drill down into any the document at any depth I choose. Nothing else is visible on screen, except, at the top of the document, its higher levels: I can click on “Preface” to see the whole of the Preface or on “Christian Humanism and Total War” to see the complete outline of the book or on “Home” to see everything I’ve put into this document, which might include everything from grocery lists to upcoming travel plans. Here I’m working on the section of the preface to the book in which I’m identifying the book’s chief theme. This is from an in-progress outline of the book I’m working on. Here’s a screenshot of a part of my Workflowy document: But Workflowy has a distinctive feature that I haven’t seen in another outliner: the ability to zoom in on a single node and make everything else disappear, just by clicking on a handle - and then zoom out again, just by clicking on a word or phrase. You can, as with all other outliners that I know of, expand or collapse nodes, so you can focus better on what you want to work on. And here’s where Workflowy comes in.Ī Workflowy document is an outline: if you want to use it well you’ll need to master just a handful of keyboard shortcuts for indenting and outdenting and moving up and moving down, but once you do that you’ll be free just to type your ideas. And there’s no really visible structure, which can sometimes be disorienting. It is the nature of the BATF and nvALT to be unstructured, which is why you might have to think about how to create relevant metadata. I love nvALT and throw almost everything textual into it - I’m typing in it right now, though at some point I’ll probably move this over to BBEdit, just out of ancient habit. It seems to me that Notational Velocity and its higher-powered clone nvALT offer a slightly more sophisticated version of the BATF idea: you don’t have just one file, but you have one window into which you type, and searching replaces sorting. (By the way, the Drafts app for iOS has a command for appending the text you type to a selected Dropbox file, which would agreeably strengthen the BATF method for people who use iPhones and iPads: just type out your thoughts and tap that command, and the text, helpfully date-stamped, is added to your BATF and will be visible when you next open it on your computer.). So there’s less friction between the idea and the act of recording it. But only if you want to.) The primary virtue of the BATF is that you eliminate the time spent creating new files and deciding where to put them. (And then, perhaps, move something into its own file when a draft is completed. No folders, no nested hierarchical stuff, just text - though possibly fitted out with tags or other searchable metadata to make it easier to find stuff. The BATF idea is simple: put all of your thoughts, ideas, plans, tasks, and drafts in one, well, big-ass text file, and then search inside of it when you need to find something. Now, Workflowy seems to have been designed largely as a task manager, but I’m intrigued by it because its design brings a certain degree of desirable structure to what Giles Turnbull once memorably called the big-ass text file, or BATF. So when I think about software that could seriously alter the way I write, one of the first examples that comes to mind is Workflowy. The white snow makes it tricky to get a good exposure and auto modes are more useless than normal in a snow scene. You can use this to your advantage and create a scene that has a lot of color contrast between warm and cool tones. When there is color in the sky, it gets reflected on the ground even more than normal because of the snow. Snowscapes are often very dramatic, especially during golden hour, but they can also be difficult to shoot. These kinds of images are highly dependent on weather and light, which is constantly changing, so you almost need to become an amateur meteorologist. Often you can use somewhat boring landscapes because the star of the show in your images is going to be the clouds. CloudscapesĬloudscapes are fun because you’ll never shoot the same thing twice. Unlike other landscape photography, you can shoot Fall colors in a wide range of lighting conditions from golden hour to overcast days and even during harsh midday sunlight. This can be tricky to time as the best colors may only show up for a couple of weeks every year. Fall Colorsįall color photos are similar to shooting in a forest but the focus is on the vibrant colors that show up every Fall. ![]() This kind of location is a great exercise in creativity and thinking beyond the traditional landscape shot, so everyone should give it a try. One benefit of all those trees is that they allow you to explore the angles of the light coming in with your camera. ![]() Try narrowing down your focus and picking small scenes within the forest to feature. Shooting in the forest can be a lot of fun but it can also be difficult to find a compelling composition with trees upon trees that all look the same. Changing tides and waves can be dangerous and those rock formations can be treacherous to walk on.īut if you take the right precautions, then the rewards are often spectacular. The movement of the ocean waves, the intricacies of rock formations, and the ability to capture clear views of sunsets or sunrises all make the beach a beautiful place to shoot.īut there are some things to watch out for as well. Shooting seascapes is an interesting and unique type of landscape photography. But you can also correct it in photo editing software if it’s not too severe. Many photographers use specialized tilt-shift lenses to compensate for this. A good way to approach it is to use your camera to “explore” the building from different places and perspectives.Ī common difficulty you may encounter when shooting tall buildings from the ground is that the low perspective causes a distortion that makes them look like they are tilted towards you. Sometimes this means only framing a small portion of the building rather than the whole thing. When shooting this type of image, you should focus on the shape, design, and style of the building and attempt to showcase those things in a unique and compelling way. Whether it’s during the day, golden hour, or after the lights come on at night, the blending of a modern city and the nature of skies, clouds, or perhaps even a body of water is often a compelling image.Īrchitecture photography is a little different than cityscapes in that the focus of the image is the architecture itself, rather than the city. Having grown up just a short drive from New York City, I’ve always loved the beauty of cityscapes. ![]() If you want that wide angle look for the foreground, then try focal length stacking (shooting the foreground wide and the background more zoomed in and then blend them together in Photoshop). Mountain photography is just as much about getting there and reaching those remote spots for the unique look or compelling composition.Ī helpful tip for shooting mountains is to avoid using an extremely wide angle lens, they make a mountain in the distance appear smaller than it is. In addition to the majestic photos that you can create in mountainous regions of the world, hiking through these areas is simply amazing even without a camera. Whether you just want to shoot the stars in the sky or invest in some extra gear like a star-tracker and try to capture the stunning detail and colors of the Milky Way Galaxy, astrophotography is another challenging but rewarding genre to try. If you live out in a less populated area of the world, you may not have cities to photograph, but the dark skies are exactly what makes for great astrophotography. When files are deleted from your iPhone, they are temporarily stored in your device’s internal database. There are many reasons why you would need to factory reset your phone, for example, an iOS upgrade that went wrong, jailbreak issues, virus attacks, and even for simple problems and bugs. Also, most recovery tools don’t support a restore of lost data back to a device because it may overwrite the current data on your device. These files can be encrypted, so you need to make sure you’re selecting a software that can decrypt and restore encrypted files. If the answer is yes then you’ll be able to narrow down your search to any software that can help you restore the most recent iTunes or iCloud backup files. If the answer to the first question is no, then you’ll need to select a tool that can perform iPhone data recovery without backup by scanning your iOS device and searching for salvageable files. As soon as you begin downloading new apps and creating new data, your “Unallocated” data cache is the first to be permanently overwritten. Once you delete specific data it is still accessible, but it transitions from “Allocated” to “ Unallocated”. Your iPhone saves deleted files on a database called SQLite. Besides, there is another way to recover your iPhone data, which is using a third-party recovery tool. You can restore your iPhone from a previous backup if you’ve backed up your data using iTunes or iCloud. ![]() It’s not always easy to recover lost data. The organisers said that they were looking to rescue 300 people who were with their families and were at impending risk of being executed by the Taliban.
